The Hero Academy
Carrow Log 1
I’m finally a student at the Hero Academy. I had hoped I might be allowed to attend, but it’s a huge expense. I will have to work hard to repay this debt to the church of Ilmater. I’ll also have to work hard to complete my training: they seem to believe in Ilmater’s idea that through suffering, one learns; they’re certainly teaching all of us to restrain boasting. If you’re a warrior student, you spend the morning running in full armor. Not a mere circling some track for a league, but hours upon hours, running at good speed, followed by full-out combat practice. I admit, I’m afraid to even get near that practice ring, especially having spent the entire day dealing with the sort of injuries people get after having intercepted an axe with their ribs or arms. I understand the wizards all have migraines, too, but don’t ask me what they had to do, because soon after we sat down to dinner, the school was invaded — well, seemingly, it might be a test — by a bunch of drow. I don’t know what it is they might want, but my dorm mates are all going out to help. I suspect the headmaster expects this of us… Truly, we are blessed with suffering to learn from.
